| MORMON PIONEER DIRECT-LINE ANCESTORS OF BRENT JAY BELNAP AND LORINDA GOFF BELNAP | ||||||
| Brent: Below are the names of 34 Mormon Pioneer direct-line ancestors of Brent J. Belnap who commenced emigrating to Utah between 1846 and 1869, prior to the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. These Mormon Pioneer ancestors include at least 5 individuals who arrived in Utah in 1847 (including one, Robert Erwin Baird, who arrived in the Salt Lake Valley with Brigham Young's initial pioneer company). They also include two direct-line ancestors who died enroute: Mary Ann Butler Graham who died in Iowa in 1846, and John Sargent who lost his life in the S.S. Saluda explosion near Lexington, Missouri in 1852. Another ancestor, James Graham who arrived in Utah in 1849, nearly perished several years later, in October 1855, as a missionary while accompanying a party of Mormon Pioneer emigrants sailing from Australia to San Francisco aboard the Julia Ann that shipwrecked on Manua'e (Scilly) atoll on the westernmost edge of the Society Islands' Leeward Islands. | ||||||
| Twenty-one (62%) of these Mormon Pioneer ancestors crossed the Atlantic from Europe to reach Utah. The remaining 13 (38%) resided in or near Nauvoo, Illinois prior to commencing their epic trek. William Stimpson, a handcart pioneer from England, was a member of the tragic Edward Martin Handcart Company; he lost his first wife and two small children in Wyoming in 1857. | ||||||
| Three additional ancestors who converted to the Church in Europe after the arrival of the Transcontinental Railroad arrived in Utah in 1877 from Sweden. | ||||||
| Lorinda: Below are the names of 26 Mormon Pioneer direct-line ancestors of Lorinda Goff Belnap who commenced emigrating to Utah between 1846 and 1869, prior to the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. These Mormon Pioneer ancestors include at least 3 individuals who arrived in Utah in 1847, the first year of arrival in Utah. They also include one direct-line ancestor, Thomas Bateman, Jr., who died at sea in 1853 while enroute a second time to America. | ||||||
| Seventeen (65%) of these Mormon Pioneer ancestors crossed the Atlantic from Europe to reach Utah. The remaining 9 (35%) resided in or near Nauvoo, Illinois or elsewhere in the United States prior to commencing their epic trek. | ||||||
| Five additional ancestors who converted to the Church in Europe after the arrival of the Transcontinental Railrod arrived in Utah--two from England in 1869 and three from Switzerland between 1874 and 1883. | ||||||
| Note: Names of Mormon Pioneer direct-line ancestors are highlighted in red bold. Other/later (post-1869 railroad or pre-Trek) LDS trans-oceanic emigrant ancestors are in red italics; non-LDS trans-oceanic emigrant ancestors are in black italics. Not included here are the dozens more Mormon Pioneers who were siblings, children, or other spouses of direct-line ancestors. | ||||||
